Educational athletics is the name of the game at SMS and HHS. Our coaches strive to teach athletes not only sport specific skills and strategies, but life-long lessons that will benefit them well beyond their middle and high school playing days.
The MS/HS athletic department is comprised of 74 teams and 82 staff and volunteer coaches. We offer a wide variety of opportunities for our student-athletes (2010-11 HS sport offering guide and 2010-11 MS sport offering guide)...hopefully, something of interest for everyone. Last year, boys' and girls' bowling was added and just this year, with much enthusiasm and success, girls' golf was added. We will have a hockey team in the 2010-11 school year. Holly HS is a charter member of the ten member Flint Metro League. Other schools in our 43 year old league include: Brandon, Clio, Fenton, Kearsley, Lapeer East, Lapeer West, Linden, and Swartz Creek. The members of the Captain's Club are enjoying it's third year. Being the leader of a team is a very rewarding opportunity...but can also be daunting at times. Our first outing our inagural year was to the Basecamp Challenge Center in Flint. Together the group has learned leadership strategies, how to handle difficult situations and the importance of teamwork and leading by example. This is my 27th year in education...all of them involved with sport either as a coach or an administrator. Working with the athletes, parents and coaches of the Holly Area School District is extremely rewarding and satisfying and I am both fortunate and blessed to be the Director of Athletics for this quality program. | |
